Ironic is'nt it that the British Army is fighting to destroy an "enemy" , the Taliban which was created and bank-rolled by the USA to do the USA's dirty work against the Russians. Now that the Taliban are of no use to the Americans; they have to be destroyed and to do this, the Despot Bush has got his muppet and lap-dog Blair to involve British troops in this onslaught. What a corrupt and dangerous world the likes of Bush and Blair have created.

Hiya Brian. It is ironic. You do know Britain has had militaristic dealings in/with Afghanistan for a long time? Prior to the current crisis?

It seems events have been happening too fast and furiously in Afghanistan for the page to be up-dated beyond 2001. For info from 2001 onward:

How is anybody going to stop the distructive duo known as Bush and Blair? They aren't listening to anyone with a contrary opinion to theirs.

Brian,

I suggest you read a book by correspondent/author Peter Bergen titled "Terror Inc.". Mr. Bergen is not a known fan of the Bush Administration and has, as his credentials, the distinction of being the last reporter to personally interview Osama Bin Laden prior to 9-11. You will find that your simplistic conclusions as to the origin of the Taliban are not so. Also, I have personally fought the Taliban in Afghanistan and have seen four close friends die within 10 meters of me and have lost nine total in the time I was there. Believe me, the US is fighting the Taliban more often than you think. It is very easy to make judgement and reach conclusions from the safety of a home far, far away from the Afghan desert sands isn't it?

The Afgan war is a pointless waste of life for if you care the you wil know that Afganistan has not be taken in a war in their history. The British tried when they colonized the empire, the Russian tried for 10 years and now the americans are trying with the aid of Blair but guess where it will end?
The afgan's will not go peacefully into the pages of history, the will fight to the last man it is their nature. It will be another Vietnam for the Americans and we got draged into a losing war by the 2 cronies. Bush and Blair.

Aye, we should have learned the first time not to get involved in Afghanistan again, but history counts for nothing with Bush and Blair - Bush Snr's 'New World Order', Condi Rice's 'New Middle East', Blair's 'Third Way' - all of these phrases are just bywords for 'ignorance'. They are either brazenly self-righteous and ignorant or cynically corrupt - neither of which descriptions commends them - how will history judge?

It is preposterous that British Soldiers are in Afghanistan at all. But I am distressed by the comments of a Colonel Stuart Tootal. He is quoted as saying "When the Taleban began an assault after a particularly long lull my soldiers ran to their positions cheering and whooping," What does that mean? Were they were excited about the killings they were about to commit?

Personally, I wonder why the fact that Israel and the Muslims can't get along is our problem. If the Israelis and Arabs want to kill each other off, why is it my problem? It seems to me we need to quarantine the killers over there and not let them get in amongst us. If the Shiites and Sunnis want to murder each other, that should be their problem, not our problem. By paying for every bullet and shell the Israelis fire, the USA is just perpetuating murder. I think the West should blockade the shipment of arms and ammo to all Muslim countries whether they like it or not. The blockade should include all arms sources including Russia and China. Then, we should tell the Israelis and Arabs to grow up, fix their problems by themselves, and leave us alone. The trouble here is, you have Sir Michael Levy running Blair and we have the Zionist neo-cons running Bush. Why does it always boil down to Israel every time we get the shaft? I think the USA should come home and tell the rest of the world to grow up without us.

William,
"Were they were excited about the killings they were about to commit?"

The short answer is, "Yes."

The other choice would have been to somehow feign excitement about being killed. Sorry, but war is like that sometimes: kill or be killed. If politicians want to solve it some other way then I'm certain we're all for it but in the meantime I guess the soldiers could desert and walk home. Har! ;)

John should take some lessons in current affairs. The majority of Afghans want peace. The coalition soldiers are not fighting against them, they are fighthng the Taliban who are mainly invaders from other muslim countries, pakistan etc, muslims who want to impose sharia law. The current Afghan government were elected by a democratic vote. The Taliban should seek to gain victory from the ballot box not the barrel of a gun. When I read such stories as this one, I can only thank God that such men still exist, who will not only put their lives on the line for what is right (the Afghans right to choose who governs them) but do it with absolute fearlessness.
