All Blacks won't play Canterbury cricket
Canterbury Cricket says it won't be following New South Wales' lead in recruiting stars from other codes
30 June 2006
Canterbury Cricket has no plans to follow the lead of New South Wales.
Controversy is raging in Sydney following the news league star Andrew Johns will turn out for the New South Wales cricket side this season in a couple of Twenty20 games.
Canterbury Cricket CEO Richard Reid says they will not be going down that route, although a couple of Crusaders rugby players could be up to the task.
Reid says he is not sure about Richie McCaw, but Dan Carter has good ball skills, and Leon MacDonald has got a good cricketing pedigree.
He jokes with Leon's cousin Gary MacDonald, a Canterbury selector, that the All Blacks full back is probably a shoe-in.
Leon Macdonald has made occasional appearances for the Sydenham seniors and was previously a Marlborough Hawke Cup representative.
