    AEP profit rises; sales remain flat

    American Electric Power finished 2011 with static sales but a big increase in profit, the result of one-time events in Texas.

    The Columbus-based utility reported $308 million in profit in the fourth quarter, up from $176 m illion in the same quarter of 2010.
